Homeless World Cup, Big Deal or Big Issue

(Webmaster Weblog article)

I've been out of it for the last few days (don't ask) but a World Cup started the other week; in Graz, Austria to be precise.

Apparently, they are all homeless people taking part in a competition organised by the 'International Network of Street Papers'.

Thats all I know really, but it made me think (I realise that is dangerous) and I have these unanswered questions;

  • Where did they send the travel arrangements to?

  • Is 'Ivor Badstory, Any Box, England' a proper address?

  • Was it a package tour?

  • Do the players' suitcases have no return label attached?

  • Do the players shuffle slowly to the ground and then drive off after the game in the latest BMW?

  • Do you have to undergo threats of violence to buy a shit paper before you are allowed in to watch the match

  • What happens when one of the dogs runs off with the ball?

  • If they have a league in their own country, are they all away games?

  • If they are all away games and there are no home games how can there be any games?

  • Anyone give a toss?

I found a web page covering the above, you just have to read it. The article is by Suzanna Loof.

My first thoughts were 'Suzanna Fool' and a jokey angle to the story, but no, its meant to be serious.

The article from the Monterrey Herald is hilarious but its not meant to be. Far too many funny lines for me to cover.

    Here are a few examples....

"I realized that if I could get up and go to training, I could get up and get a job or go to school."

The organiser hopes he won't see the same players next year.

    He said...

"I would expect most of the players to have moved on".

    Duh!.....
